Stick with us long enough, and I’ll eventually ask you to stand in our Member Spotlight! Thanks to Ali and John for taking the time to tell us a little bit about themselves and what got them into CrossFit.
1. Give us a little background on yourself, as much or as little as you’d like to share (age, where you’re from, what you do for a “living”, etc.).
Ali and Johnny have been married for almost five years, two of which they have spent as members of CFHC, and loved every minute of it! Ali was born and raised in Montville, New Jersey, and John was raised in Honduras and claims North Carolina as his home state in the US. John and Ali first met while serving in the Navy overseas in Sicily, Italy and are currently stationed in San Diego where Ali is a radiological technician at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) and John is an Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC) student [I inserted the Acronym Translations, for those of you who don’t speak “Navy”].
2. What hobbies or interests (other than CrossFit) do you have?
During their spare time, they both enjoy spending time with each other and doing outdoor activities (hiking, camping, running, going to the beach, etc.) with their dogs Konan and Vinny, as well as spending time with friends.
3. What got you interested in CrossFit? Why do you do it (i.e., what are your health goals)?
We both started CrossFit with our friends Lindsay and Raz to simply live a better lifestyle and get in good shape. We still continue to do it because it has strengthened our relationship and it really makes us feel good about ourselves. CrossFit holds us accountable to our own physical and nutritional health and there is never a time we aren’t working towards something greater.
4. What’s your favorite CrossFit exercise? What’s your least favorite?
Ali’s favorite CrossFit exercise is handstand pushups, and least favorite is double unders (which also happens to be John’s least favorite) [coincidence? I think not…]. Johnny’s favorite exercise is power cleans.
5. What do you like the most about being a member at CrossFit Hillcrest?
Our favorite thing about being a member at CFHC is definitely the friendships we have made. It is truly a tight knit community filled with different people from all walks of life coming together to do the same thing, and its the family atmosphere between our fellow athletes and coaches that motivate us to work harder and harder each time.
So glad you two enjoy our little community! Thanks again for being members and congrats on your growing family.
